its been a while the tech world was rumoring about a google phone. A phone having hardware and software made with google's signature on it.That's what revealed a week before. GOOGLE PIXEL and GOOGLE PIXEL XL.
Why the launch of these two smartphones got too much attention from the media? To know that we have to go back to 2005 .Thats when google takes the Android start-up. From then on google is been dreaming of their own smartphone.
Google's takeover on Android has even scared Steve Job's that he said that he will spend his last penny to destroy Android. It result in start of the iPhone era ,by launching their first smartphone before google in 2007.From then on there wasn't a good competitor for Apple even when google has an atom bomb under their shadow.
But google's strategy was different . They plan to make the Android platform people's favorite by beating iOS and Windows. By getting the Android OS for free from a tech giant google, every leading mobile manufacturers came running to make a phone out of it.Samsung , LG ,SONY etc took advantage of this free offer.It made the Android people's favorite keeping up the competition with Apple.
but earnings from Android was quite not enough for Google,also the manufacturers was killing the purity of Android with over customization . These things lead to the concept of their own phone by google even though it was confusing where to start.
First they did was to buy the mobile division from Motorola, but couldn't utilize the opportunity and technology properly ,ending up selling moto patents to Lenovo.
Then comes the Nexus phones. The world loved Nexus, even though google did had only minute shares in the market.
Google projects the Pixel phones knowingly or unknowingly as a rival for iPhone models. why it so?
Google owns the Android platform , but it is utilized by other leading mobile companies. Even though pixel comes as a rival for iphones, it actually a threat for other android phones. Because they could keep their own features on their phone without letting other companies use it.
It may even result in other companies leaving the android platform or people leaving android .
Google answer this dilemma by keeping their Nexus franchise by co operating with the current manufacturers.
we have to wait and see where Pixel will end up, since Google had lot of failures in the past while experimenting with technology, biggest example is Google glass.
